Lindsey Vonn’s comeback was criticized a lot in advance. On Saturday the time had come – and the US ski star was convincing.
After a break of more than five years, Lindsey Vonn has made an impressive comeback in the Ski World Cup. At the Super-G in St. Moritz, the 40-year-old American came 14th out of 57 starters. She was only 1.18 seconds behind the leader, Cornelia Hütter from Austria. At the finish, Vonn beamed and waved to the crowd.
It was Vonn’s first World Cup race since January 2019, when she made her last start in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The return of the record holder, who celebrated 82 World Cup victories in her career, caused discussions in advance. The main reason for this was her artificial knee joint, with which she now competes in the risky speed disciplines.
There is another Super-G on the program in St. Moritz on Sunday, in which Vonn would like to compete again.
