VI face Bas Nijhuis has been very aggressive as a referee on the football field, but why is that? Wilfred Genee speculates about it on television. “Maybe there is some tension.”
Bas Nijhuis went completely out of his way on Tuesday when some football player on the field did not want to listen to him. The VI referee’s outburst of anger was so explosive that the fragment went viral on social media (see below). “Stop that nonsense and get rid of it,” he allegedly shouted, according to ESPN.
Under pressure
Bas’s private problems will certainly play a role, Wilfred Genee now speculates at the table Today Inside. The referee is under fire for strange fabrications to maintain a double life, including the adoptions of Romanian girls and an alcohol problem. And maybe that’s why they take him less seriously on the field.
Wilfred: “If you are in the publicity, you are under pressure. I also notice it in Bas. He was also a bit the last time… But I saw him whistling this week and I have never seen Bas so angry.”
More going on
Table guest Hélène Hendriks has also seen it. “Yes, he was angry, wasn’t he?”
Wilfred: “Yes, I have never seen Bas so angry. I thought: could there be more to it? You should look here! Bass angry here! Calm down man!”
René van der Gijp: “Come on, hey, Bas! Bas ate something wrong, there is no other way!”
Support from Johan
Johan Derksen supports Bas. “He is right about this. He tells the boy that he is making a mistake, he gives a big beak and then says: ‘Come here! I just want to communicate with you!’, and then the guy just walks away. You don’t let yourself squeak in front of a grandstand.”
René thinks it is exaggerated. “Yes, but he is very busy.”
Wilfred: “If he talks to my children like that, they will be scared shitless! Just look at this!”
‘This is not Bass’
René thinks that Bas is not feeling well. “This is not Bas. This is a bit of an exaggeration.”
Johan: “Bas hates it when they complain to him. You can tackle, but he finds it annoying to nag at him.”
Wilfred: “I thought: maybe there is some tension, but that’s not too bad?”
Hélène thinks it’s fake: “No, you’re looking for something!”
Under tension
Wilfred denies that he is trying to frame Bas. “No, of course I’m not looking for anything, hahaha, no! I am looking at Bas with great surprise.”
Johan then delivers what Wilfred is looking for: “I wouldn’t find it strange if Bas lives a bit under tension.”
Wilfred: “That can all happen.”
Hélène: “Yes, that is possible.”
