The mother of Marco Borsato’s victim is suddenly pushing for an amicable settlement behind the scenes, says Private Boss Evert Santegoeds. “Maybe it was terrible revenge.”
The abuse case surrounding Marco Borsato has been simmering on for years and years and seems likely to finally be dealt with in court next year, in 2025. But behind the scenes there are suddenly some striking movements, say Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden and Privé editor-in-chief Evert Santegoeds in their podcast Strictly Private.
No punishment after all?
What exactly is going on? Jordi says: “Now there is a rumor that the mother of the possible victim says: ‘Yes, I might want to solve something behind the scenes, without any punishment involved.’”
Evert then says: “Yes, duhh. Well, if I were Marco Borsato I would say: ‘No, we are really going through the entire process and not letting it get stuck somewhere in a settlement.’ Marco says that he did not do what he is accused of and he has been saying that for almost three years.”
In the courtroom
Evert advises Marco to just carry on. “He must continue to do that in court now, no matter how long it takes, but whoever says A must also say B. This mother first searched or tried to tell her story through the press. Ultimately we said we wouldn’t do that.”
The Private Boss means that he kept the allegations against Marco under wraps for more than a year and a half. “It ended up with Coldeweijer, who released it into the world.”
Inner circle
According to him, Marco can best continue until the bitter end. “Yes, the damage is so great that if I were Marco, I would say: ‘Just another year, but I’m not going to sit in a back room and settle things. Now it must become clear what I have done and what I can say against those accusations.’”
He continues: “It is not without reason that the Knoopses, Marco’s lawyers, have 29 exculpatory statements and they concern, among other things, that mother.”
Terrible revenge
The investigation into Borsato is now in its final phase. What does Evert think of that mother’s timing? “I find that strange too. A lot will be known about that family that Marco visited a lot. It is also said that he had an affair with that girl’s mother.”
He concludes: “Maybe it was a very terrible revenge after ending that relationship after all the stories about Iris Hond, but that will all be discussed in court.”
Inner circle
It must be noted that Evert’s accusations against Marco’s alleged victim fit a pattern. After all, ever since Marco’s possible criminal behavior was kept under wraps, he has been heavily influenced by the singer.
Even after the fornication scandal emerged, Evert continued to use large venues to downplay Marco’s alleged criminal behavior. It was so bad that at one point he had to die for it. Now Evert still willingly lets Marco and his use him inner circle by publishing crying stories in Private.
One thing is certain: Marco can now indeed continue until the bitter end…
