Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting has found a new club six months after his contract with FC Bayern ended. The 35-year-old striker is moving to the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. He was presented there as a new signing on Wednesday; he will receive a contract for two seasons with an option for a further one.
“We are pleased to add a player of the caliber of Maxim to our squad,” sports director Jochen Schneider is quoted as saying. “Maxim is a great player, a winner and his experience in Europe’s top leagues will be of great importance to our club in 2025 and beyond.”
Choupo-Moting might know his new coach from his Mainz days. In December 2023, Sandro Schwarz took over the position in New York and led the club to the championship final, in which LA Galaxy (2-1) with Marco Reus emerged as winners. Choupo-Moting played for FSV Mainz 05 between 2011 and 2014, and Schwarz coached the U19s in 2013/14. The attacker played for FCB from 2020 until last summer and previously played for six different clubs.
