The Apennine derby is the least classic of the Italian classics, but a lot happened in those hundred kilometers…
The hundred kilometers that – as the crow flies – divide Bologna and Florence have given rise over the course of almost a century to a deeply felt rivalry, which has had intermittent phases and which has developed along the path that such a long time contemplated : therefore crossing, in the punctuation of epic goals and memorable matches, joy and tragedy, illusion and disenchantment, in the name of protagonists of a Sunday or always. The good moment of the two teams – both committed to earning a first or second row place in Europe – testifies to the progress that has been made in recent years: a “route” that began with the arrival of two sons of Italy of the past, Joey Saputo – a family of Sicilian origins, who found their fortune in Canada – and Rocco Commisso – a family of Calabrian origins – who built his own “American Dream” across the ocean.
