When Thomas Tuchel takes up his job as England coach on January 1st, a lot of things are likely to change at the Three Lions. With regard to Harry Kane from FC Bayern, the new head coach is focusing on continuity.
As Tuchel revealed on the sidelines of the World Cup qualifying draw in Zurich, the attacker will remain captain of the England team under him. The Bayern star was always “a top captain,” emphasized Tuchel. From his point of view, there is “no reason to think about a change. Why should I do that?”
There is great hope among fans on the island that the 51-year-old will finally lead the proud English team to the title they long for. At the 2026 World Cup, England wants to hold a trophy in their hands for the first time since 1966.
At the same time, Tuchel should break with football under his predecessor Gareth Southgate, who always prescribed staid pragmatism to the highly talented team. Under Southgate, England recently made it to a European Championship final twice. However, twice we came away empty-handed.
Half a year break after leaving FC Bayern
Tuchel emphasized that he had prepared intensively for the new task and saw a lot of potential. “We have initiated some developments. We will see a lot of matches live from January and talk to the players. We have a lot of plans.”
Tuchel went on to explain that he couldn’t be happier with his new job, which he is taking on six months after the end of his term at FC Bayern. “It’s a privilege to fill this position. I’m very proud – this is my dream job,” said the former BVB coach.
The road to the World Cup finals is unlikely to cause any problems for Tuchel in the coming months. In the qualification you will face Serbia, Albania, Latvia and Andorra.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann also believes his colleague will have a successful term. “He’ll do great. He’s an excellent coach,” said the DFB coach on Friday.
