Fracture of a leg. West Ham have confirmed with a statement the diagnosis for Michail Antonio, the striker who crashed his Ferrari into a tree on the north-eastern outskirts of London yesterday afternoon. Hospitalized since yesterday, after being pulled out of the wreckage of his car by firefighters, the 34-year-old center forward born in London but with a Jamaican passport remains in hospital for now.

the statement

“West Ham announce that Michail Antonio has undergone surgery to reduce a broken lower leg following his accident on Saturday afternoon,” the club wrote. Michael will continue to remain under medical supervision in hospital for the next few days. the accident

It is still unclear what caused Antonio’s accident. The local police confirmed in a statement that no other vehicles were involved, while the firefighters said that, once they arrived on site, they had to pull the attacker out of the wreckage of his car, where he remained for almost an hour. The images circulating on social media of the destroyed Ferrari had made people fear the worst, with the bulletins released by West Ham immediately clarifying the attacker’s condition. Antonio, who scored 68 goals in 268 games in his Premier League career (best scorer in the history of the Hammers), was involved in a terrifying car accident also in 2019. The timeframe for his return to the pitch is not expected to be short , but West Ham (who host Wolverhampton tomorrow in the postponed round of 15) prefers to focus on the attacker’s physical condition.
