The Tuscan, seeded number 13 in the tournament, probably also paid for the fatigue accumulated in the last competitive commitments
This time there is no comeback and not even a happy ending for Jasmine Paolini. The Tuscan, seeded number 13, was defeated in the round of 16 of Indian Wells, the first Masters 1000 combined of the season, by Anastasija Potapova, seeded number 28: 7-5 0-6 6-3 the final score for the Russian, who didn’t start with the odds in this match but took advantage of Paolini’s too many breaks, probably also due to tiredness after such intense weeks. Jasmine came from the Dubai 1000 won triumphantly, and perhaps she didn’t have any left at this point. Of course, it remains a shame, a great shame indeed, given the scoreboard which was open at least until the semi-finals, after Rybakina’s withdrawal. The 28 year old Italian could close the match quite quickly, and she can eat her hands especially for that first set, where she went to serve at 5-3 after having broken her opponent, but at the best moment she suffered the counterbreak to 0 and then lost three games in a row.

Jasmine’s fury fell on Potapova in the second set, with a long and uninterrupted solo by the Italian, a clear 6-0, with the Russian unable to do anything to counter the Italian. The great fear seems to have passed, Paolini seems in control but suddenly Potapova finds herself, with the Italian a little tired. The decisive break at 3-1, Paolini remains in her wake (3-2) and in the seventh game she does well to avoid the double break, which however is only postponed: the Russian closes 6-3, ending Paolini’s positive streak at seven consecutive meetings. Jasmine, however, should only be applauded for these last few weeks.
