Hundreds of broadcasters play “Give Peace a Chance”

To send a signal against the Ukraine war, more than 200 radio stations in Germany played the peace song “Give Peace a Chance” at 8:45 a.m. on Friday. Broadcasters from all over Europe took part in the campaign.

Radio stations in more than 25 countries wanted to take part in the campaign, including the Ukrainian broadcaster Radio Promin. According to ZDF, the action, in which both public and private broadcasters wanted to participate, took place on the initiative of RBB under director Patricia Schlesinger.

“Give Peace A Chance” was created in 1969 during the so-called bed-in of Beatles singer John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono in Montréal. At the time, the artist couple was traveling around organizing protests for peace. The song was recorded in the couple’s hotel room in Montréal, and initially became an anti-Vietnam War song.

The solidarity action took place in view of the ongoing military conflicts in Ukraine. Since the invasion war began last week, numerous people from the music and entertainment industry have shown solidarity with the Ukrainian population.
