The new sports park in Odoorn is taking shape: the floor has now been laid. ‘Then we’ll really take to the air’

The new sports park in Odoorn is making steady progress. The floor of the ground floor of the sports complex was laid last week.

The new sports complex will house the canteen, changing rooms, stands and storage space of the football and tennis club SV HOVC (merged from TC Okko and vv HOVC). The building will be 40 by 16 meters on two floors. The new football fields, tennis courts and padel courts have already been constructed by Avitec.

Construction of the new club building started last month with the preparation of the ground and foundation. And now that the floor has been laid, Brands Bouw can continue with the walls. “And then we really take to the air,” says executor Robin Striper of Brands Bouw.

The biggest challenge will be the details of the building. “It depends on the different materials. For example, the walls are made of sand-lime brick and there will be a flat and sloping roof on the building, the sloping part of which will have a steel substructure.”

Construction is on schedule, Striper said. Brands Bouw hopes to have the sports park ready by the end of the year.

Football in Exloo and Valthe

HOVC now plays football in Exloo and Valthe. When the club building is completed at the end of this year, the football club will move to Odoorn. The football season after the summer will therefore still be played on the fields in Exloo and Valthe. “Fortunately we have that option, we can manage with it,” says chairman Harold Enting. “It does require some extra energy from the volunteers, because now everything has to be divided between two canteens instead of one canteen.”

But everything for a good cause: “If you see where we are going, we are very satisfied with that.”
