The Theo Maassen hugging continues at BNNVARA, even now that fellow broadcaster VPRO has chosen to fire him as Summer Guests host. “There is one option left.”
It is impossible to follow: Matthijs van Nieuwkerk has almost personally been sent out of the country by BNNVARA boss Suzanne Kunzeler, but Theo Maassen – who is accused of much more serious matters – continues to hug them incessantly. In fact, she puts him forward as the figurehead of the family Friday evening on TV.
‘Away with Theo!’
Theo has recorded the program Der Theo for the broadcaster and this search for German culture is scheduled to be broadcast from May 3, in the run-up to the European Football Championship. The broadcasting location? Friday evening prime time on NPO 1. This is really intolerable, says ratings authority Tina Nijkamp in her podcast Tina’s TV Update.
Suzanne’s policy is really impossible to follow, Tina thinks. “Yes, I think there is a bit of a double standard at BNNVARA. With Matthijs, Suzanne Kunzeler could not say quickly enough that he was also accused of physical and sexual misconduct and they allowed all of this.”
One option left
There is one option left to punish BNNVARA for hugging Theo, according to Tina. “I actually think that the NPO should intervene now, because they are concerned with what is broadcast and when. I don’t think the NPO should broadcast on fun family Friday evenings.”
According to her, it would be an insult to many victims. “I just don’t think that’s a good signal to all people who have to deal with abuse.”
Not denied
Theo stubbornly refuses to respond and those who remain silent agree. “Theo Maassen did not respond and therefore did not deny it, right? There is also no denial in that statement from that sister and that friend and that wife of his. Just that that woman did not get her nose broken and the article is nonsense.”
“All in all I would say to the NPO: don’t do it on Friday evening on the largest channel at prime time, but broadcast this documentary series sometime late at night or in the afternoon on NPO 2 or NPO 3, but not on the big family channel. I just don’t think that’s very appropriate at the moment.”
