New York museum shows jewelry from hip-hop stars

Jewelry from hip-hop stars like Nicki Minaj, Erykah Badu and A$AP Rocky is coming to the museum in New York. The American Museum of Natural History, usually known for dinosaur skeletons and butterflies, is hosting ‘Ice Cold: An Exhibition of Hip-Hop Jewelry’ starting May 9th.

The show is intended to “showcase the cultural influence of hip-hop through breathtaking jewelry worn by some of its most legendary stars,” said the museum in Central Park in Manhattan. You can see, among other things, thick gold chains and pendants set with gemstones and platinum. Hip-hop, which originated in New York’s Bronx, celebrated its 50th birthday last year and has long since become one of the most successful music genres in the world. (dpa)
