As technical director

FC Schalke 04 has apparently considered a desired successor for former technical director André Hechelmann (see article about the separation). According to “Sky”, discussions are underway with Ben Manga, who once worked very successfully as chief scout at Eintracht Frankfurt and most recently worked in the same position as Hechelmann at the Royal Blues in England at FC Watford until October 2023.
According to the Hornets, the 50-year-old had to leave because changes were made to the management structure in order to get the club back on the road to success. Coach Valérien Ismaël had partially taken over Manga’s duties, Watford had then moved away from the relegation zone, but recently lost five out of six championship games. The former first division club is still separated by a cushion of six points from 22nd place.
For over six years in Frankfurt, Manga was responsible for discovering players such as Omar Mascarell, Luka Jović, Daichi Kamada, Tuta, Evan Ndicka and Randal Kolo Muani, all of whom experienced significant increases in market value on the Main. The ex-professional from Equatorial Guinea was therefore also known in fan circles as “Pearl Diver”, “Eagle Eye” or “Gold Eye”.
