The theme of Spring Fever Week 2024 is ‘Resilient online’. Computers, tablets and phones play a major role in children’s lives today. During the project week, children are taught how to use the internet and social media safely. In the upper grades they also learn about what to do if you unintentionally come across nude images.
According to the Rutgers knowledge center, ‘digital puberty’ already starts in the upper grades of primary school. Then children can maintain relationships online or meet new people. This happens, for example, on TikTok and Snapchat. They may therefore encounter unwanted content, such as nudity, violent images or animal suffering. So-called stickers are also sent around on WhatsApp, for example. These are small pictures that may contain nudity.
For example, during Spring Fever Week, children learn what to do if they encounter these types of unwanted images, how they can protect their privacy and who they can contact if something happens that they do not like.
