Kamala Harris calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

US Vice President Kamala Harris called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during a meeting in Selma on Sunday, international news agencies reported. “Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire for at least the next six weeks,” she said. a speech at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge. She also wants Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. “The Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid. No excuses.”

What we are seeing every day in Gaza is devastating.

As we’ve said, there is a deal on the table that includes a 6-week ceasefire, which would get hosts out and aid in.

In doing so, Harris addressed ally Israel much more sternly than President Joe Biden and other American government officials have done so far. Biden said on Friday evening that he “hopes for a ceasefire before Ramadan begins.” According to the Islamic lunar calendar, this will be on March 10 or 11.

No agreement has yet been reached during negotiations this weekend in Cairo on a new ceasefire. According to Harris, a deal is on the table that would free the remaining Israeli hostages and bring a significant amount of aid into Gaza. She calls on Hamas to accept that deal.
