Just four weeks after tearing his left Achilles tendon, golf icon Bernhard Langer is working intensively on his comeback. The rehabilitation measures in his adopted US home of Florida were going well, the 66-year-old native of Anhausen told “Welt am Sonntag”. “My goal is to get everything back in order as quickly as possible.”
His doctor is very satisfied with the healing process. If he continues to make such progress, the 1985 and 1993 Masters winner hopes to be able to play golf again in May or June. Langer revealed that he sustained the injury while playing pickleball. Pickleball is a trend sport in the USA that combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton.
Langer wanted to celebrate his farewell to the legendary US Masters in mid-April. The April 11-14 tournament was scheduled to be his final start at Augusta National Golf Club. The two-time champion will miss this major due to the injury. It is not yet clear whether he will compete at the Masters again in 2025. As Masters champion, he has a lifetime right to compete in the tournament. The veteran also has to cancel his planned farewells to the US Open (June 13th to 16th in Pinehurst) and the BMW International Open in Munich from July 3rd to 7th.
Langer’s dream: heli-skiing
The Swabian, who lives in Boca Raton, doesn’t want to fulfill a lifelong dream until he’s finally put his golf clubs away: heli-skiing. “Flying to a peak in a helicopter and then driving down to the valley for not just two minutes, but much longer, is something I would like to experience again.”
Langer has been playing golf professionally since 1976. In addition to his two Masters victories, the German golf icon celebrated countless successes. Langer achieved 42 victories on the former European Tour alone. He celebrated winning the Ryder Cup six times. When the world rankings were introduced in 1986, he was the first player to be at the top. Langer has been playing on the PGA Tour Champions (tour for those over 50) since 2007 and has won 46 titles – more than anyone before.
