The Italian market continues to grow despite the uncertainty about the timing of application of the incentives which especially penalizes electric cars and plug-in hybrids
The Italian automotive market also grows to February 2024. In the month just ended they were registered 147,094 new carsequal to +12.8% compared to 130,405 a year ago. The first two months of the year are recorded with a growth of 11.7% over the same period in 2023 with 289,103 units, a lower number however (-15.9%) in comparison with 2019.uncertainty on the timing of the incentives coming into force, especially for electrical and the plug-in hybrids. According to Unrae data, the former stopped at 3.4% and the Phevs at 3.2% of the total market.

The difficulties of battery-powered cars are clear in the analysis of the fuel systems preferred by Italians in the first two months of 2024. The gas gains over 30% of volumes and rises by 5 points in February, to 31.1% share, while the decline in diesel, in the last month losing 4.4 points, to 14.8% of the total. Stable the LPGin February at 9.5%. As for hybridmild-hybrids and full-hybrids confirm themselves as the best compromise for the transition phase towards electric, rising to 37.8% share in February and 37.9% in the cumulative January-February 2024. Hev (full-hybrid) are at around 10.0%, separated from the Mhev (mild-hybrid) which reach 27.8%. As mentioned, the discordant notes come from battery-powered cars: the electrical (Bev) lost 0.3 points in February and stopped at 3.4% share (2.7% in the two-month period), the plug-in hybrids (Phev) fell one point compared to a year ago, to 3.2% (3.0% cumulatively).
