How to level up weapons and materials in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

It may not be immediately clear how to level up weapons and materials in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and for this reason we will explain it to you in a guide.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth offers many weapons, equipment and materials to equip, with thousands of possible combinations for each member of the playable party, each of which changes the way you approach combat. Over the course of the game, you may find weapons and materials that you’ll want to keep on your characters long-term.

If you want your materia to be useful in the late game, or if you want to continue using weapon abilities after upgrading to a more powerful weapon, you’ll need to level them up.

This guide will tell you how to level up weapons to get their abilities permanently and how to level up materia in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

How to level up weapons – Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth —

The weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth all have a unique ability that can be used in combat, and most of them are very useful. Cloud’s Potens Sword, for example, has an ability called that deals a huge amount of damage and significantly increases the stagger of enemies it hits. Initially you will only be able to use these unique abilities when the weapon is equipped, but as you level up you will also be able to use them after switching to another weapon.

To level up a weapon and gain its unique ability permanently, you need to use that weapon and its ability a lot. Simply using the weapon and its skill in combat will increase your proficiency level, which will eventually cause you to level up. It takes a little time, but you can increase the growth speed by taking specific actions for each weapon. When you hover over a weapon on the weapon selection screen, a section in the sidebar tells you what you can do to gain a proficiency bonus. Following these proficiency bonuses greatly reduces the time it takes to fully level up your weapon.

How to level up subjects – FF7 Rebirth —

Leveling up Materials makes them stronger, gives greater boosts to statistics and unlocks more powerful versions of the attacks and spells on offer. A level 1 Galvanic materia allows you to use only Fulgor, while a level 3 version of the same materia allows you to use Fulgor, Fulgora and Fulgoraga. Leveling up Materials is a rather slow process and, depending on how you play, will happen quite slowly over the course of the game. Materia uses AP to level up, which is earned by using the skill or spell the materia gives access to, and also as a reward for defeating enemies in combat, along with EXP. It is also possible to increase a materia’s AP gain rate by linking it to an Evolutionary AP materia, which doubles the linked materia’s AP gain rate. That said, if you are able to purchase or develop higher level materia, it’s worth doing so rather than leveling up a materia yourself.
