For the first time, around half of Spotify’s total sales came from indie musicians.
While you often only hear about the high sales of the music industry superstars, what is often overlooked is the income of the smaller independent artists. The latest sales figures from the streaming provider Spotify now show an increase in this regard.
Indie musicians generated almost 4.2 billion euros in 2023, which corresponds to around half of the total turnover of 8.3 billion.
Indies have quadrupled sales since 2017
That indie musicians via Spotify Being able to achieve such success is a first. The revenue achieved is the highest they have ever recorded for a single provider.
In comparison, they made just a quarter of Spotify’s current profits in 2017 – a significant shift in the industry within just a few years.
