15 for UA: German songwriters sing for Ukraine

Musicians from Germany release a joint cover of the song “Obijmy”.

ROLLING STONE columnist Charlotte Brandi and 14 other songwriters from Germany want to send a sign of solidarity with Ukraine. The reason for this is the second anniversary of the Russian attack. Under the name “15 for UA”, the musicians are releasing a joint cover of the song “Obijmy” by the Ukrainian band Okean Elzy – in Ukrainian. You can listen to the song and for a civilian volunteer project in Ukraine here donate.

The song is about coming to terms with war trauma. He became known to an international audience through Coldplay when the band performed the piece at a concert in Warsaw with a Ukrainian street musician.

The project was initiated by Berlin sound engineer and producer Simon Gordeev, a native Ukrainian. He was able to win over his favorite musicians for this. The artists involved are scattered across several cities in Germany and, after pronunciation training, some of them recorded their own singing parts. They had a free hand in designing the instrumental contributions. What was originally intended as a simple guitar-voice song became, over the course of production, a piece with piano, choirs, brass and strings.

These songwriters are involved in the project:

  • Charlotte Brandi
  • Catt
  • Gisbert of Knyphausen
