From April 10, Drenthe people over 65 can purchase a bicycle helmet with a 25 euro discount at bicycle shops in the province.
The Provincial Executive has released almost 75,000 euros for the Traffic Education Promotion Foundation (SBV). The money can be used to finance 2,000 bicycle helmets.
“In addition to creating awareness, we want to encourage these people to purchase a helmet, so that they can continue cycling safely for as long as possible,” reports deputy Henk Jumelet.
According to research, cyclists who wear a helmet are less likely to suffer serious head or brain injuries than cyclists without helmets. “We find road safety important in Drenthe. This certainly applies to vulnerable users such as cyclists,” says Jumelet.
From April 10, National Bicycle Helmet Day, an approved bicycle helmet can be purchased at a discount.
