The state of the “North Atlantic Gulf Stream” influences our climate in Western Europe. Since 1950, however, this seems to be weakening more and more. A new study from scientists at Utrecht University now suggests that a sudden collapse is closer than thought. Arctic ice as far away as Europe, sea levels rising by one meter, and large parts of the world suddenly uninhabitable due to extreme heat. These are just a few of the possible scenarios that could unfold if this North Atlantic Gulf Stream comes to a standstill. But what exactly is this? What are those chances?
