Long jump: Mihambo secures victory at ISTAF

Long jumper Malaika Mihambo has won the Berlin Istaf Indoor for the fifth time.

At the end of her indoor season, the Olympic champion jumped her longest distance of 6.95 meters this winter and can therefore say goodbye to the Olympic year with peace of mind as she prepares for the outdoor season. The 30-year-old will not be taking part in the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow next weekend.

Five days after her success at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig with 6.93 meters, Mihambo also prevailed in front of 12,150 spectators at the largest indoor meeting in the world. After 6.78 meters at the start and three invalid attempts, the Heidelberg woman sailed to winning distance at the end.

Mihambo “very satisfied”

“For me, this indoor season was about coming back after the injury. So I’m very happy,” said Mihambo, who missed the World Championships last year after tearing a muscle fiber.

The Swiss Annik Kälin and the fifth-placed World Cup winner Larissa Iapichino from Italy managed 6.75 meters each in second and third place. The DM runner-up Mikaelle Assani from Baden-Baden, who is nominated for the World Cup, came fourth this time with 6.69 meters after 6.91 meters in Leipzig. Laura Raquel Müller from Öhringen, third in the German Championships, came fifth with 6.64 meters.

Over 60 meters, the European relay champions Alexandra Burghardt (7.26 seconds) and Rebekka Haase (7.32) – German champion a week ago – took fifth and sixth place. The Italian Zaynab Dosso was the clear winner in 7.09 seconds.
