The letter emphasizes how short-sighted political dividing lines benefit no one now or in the future.
The signatories demand that world leaders cooperate purposefully to minimize the risks that threaten our entire existence. In order for artificial intelligence to remain under control and on the side of the good guys, it requires global control and regulation, according to the signatories.
One of the signatories is the founder of the Future of Life Institute Max Tegmarkwho commented on the letter to the US CNBC news channel.
– Technology itself is not bad, but it is a tool that can lead to scary things if it is allowed to develop too quickly in the wrong hands, Tegmark said.
The letter was published by the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela founded in 2007 by The Elders group. The president was also involved in its activities Martti Ahtisaari.
