In the television program All of Holland Bakt hobby bakers show their best side. The broadcast consists of three assignments: a variation on a classic recipe, the technical assignment and the spectacle. The theme of the third episode is ‘America’.
Yes, we bake
In two hours, the participants must put their own twist on the traditional cheesecake. Carla makes the cake from filo pastry and four-season fruits. Carla is not happy because the bottom sticks to the springform pan after baking in the oven. But she keeps smiling as she tops the cheesecake with a layer of powdered sugar. “What a disgrace!” Juror Janny says he thinks the cake is a bit messy. And Robèrt likes her idea of using filo pastry, but the filling is too rough. “It looks like scrambled eggs.”
Pale bagels
As a technical assignment, the hobby bakers make five American bagels. Carla’s bagels all have a different shape, and some have too big a hole in the middle. In addition, her cream cheese with fresh herbs from André van Duin is too salty, according to the jury.

As a showpiece, the amateur bakers make a cartoon cake in three hours. “We’re going to have a blast,” says Carla at the start of the assignment. With some flour on her face, Carla makes a carrot cake topped with a pair of rabbit ears. Unlike the previous episodes, she doesn’t manage to finish on time. The sponge from her cartoon cake Guinea pig According to Robèrt, the taste is good, but the buttercream is too sandy. “That is due to too much sugar,” says Janny.
