At the end of the Biathlon World Championships, it looked like a happy ending for a long time. But in the last attack, Benedikt Doll missed a possible medal.
Benedikt Doll missed out on a medal in what was possibly his last World Championship race. The Black Forester, who wants to clarify his future biathlon career in the next few days, took twelfth place in the mass start over 15 kilometers after three penalty laps (+1:32.7 minutes). The 33-year-old had previously won bronze in the individual in Nove Mesto. Doll had a chance of winning a medal until the last shooting, but then missed his chance with two mistakes.
The Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö secured victory in the mass start ahead of the Latvian Andrejs Rastorgujevs (0/+15.1 seconds) and Quentin Fillon Maillet from France (1/+33.0). For Bö it was the 20th gold medal at a World Cup. In doing so, he drew level with record world champion and compatriot Ole Eine Björndalen.
Three medals for the DSV
The best German was Philipp Nawrath (3/+1:25.4 minutes) in tenth place. Johannes Kühn (3/+1:48.2) came 14th, Justus Strelow (1/+1:57.3) took 16th place.
The German Ski Association (DSV) concluded the World Championships in the Czech Republic with one silver and two bronze medals. They also secured three precious metals at the last World Championships in Oberhof, but at the Rennsteig the DSV team was able to celebrate one gold and two silver medals. This millennium was only the fourth World Cup without German gold.
