The hit Osimhen risks not being just a hit of the summer. The news of Mbappé’s farewell to PSG officially opened – and well in advance – the race for his successor and the name of Napoli’s Nigerian striker is obviously on president Nasser Al Khelaifi’s list, and also in a prestigious position. After all, there are few center forwards like this around the world and Osimhen comes from a season that has consecrated him at world level: eighth place in the Ballon d’Or rankings, top scorer in Serie A and best striker in the Italian championship, Pallone of African gold and the status of decisive player also recognized on Champions League nights.

And then it certainly won’t scare the release clause that Osimhen and his entourage managed to extract from Napoli during the renewal: 130 million euros, obviously to be paid in a single solution, as per the regulations. Victor is the highest paid player in the history of Napoli, but those 10 million net that he receives in blue – and which weigh enormously on the club’s budget – would have a negligible weight for PSG’s coffers. The problem, if anything, would be of a technical-tactical nature: Victor is a true center forward, a penalty area man who loves to launch himself into spaces in the open field. By focusing on him, Luis Enrique should review some things about his team (without Mbappé), changing the way of attacking and filling the area. But these are secondary problems: if PSG were to decide to focus on Osimhen, it is difficult to think that the deal will not go through, even if it is not all so obvious.

The crux, in fact, could be represented by Victor’s desire to land in England: the Premier League has always been Osimhen’s great goal and there is no shortage of admirers across the Channel too. To be honest, in Victor’s mind, Chelsea would have a preferential lane, also because that’s where his idol Drogba played. The problem is that Chelsea today (and perhaps also next summer) cannot guarantee the Nigerian the Champions League, something that he could instead find at Arsenal, another club ready to sign up for the sprint for the blue 9. Napoli, meanwhile, is waiting for signs and in the meantime hopes that Victor can give the team a jolt in the race for fourth place in Serie A.
