Swill be inaugurated by Elizabeth Stroutone of the greatest authors of contemporary American literature, the edition of Turin Book Fair 2024. From 9 to 13 May, five days in the company of Italian and international authors, publishing houses and readers of all ages. This will be the Salone under the new direction of Annalena Benini, who took command of the event after the departure of Nicola Lagioia.
Book Fair 2024: “Imaginary life” the theme of the new edition
“Imaginary Life” is the theme of the XXXVI edition of literary festival that for Annalena Benini «it moves creative life, as Natalia Ginzburg writes in her magnificent essay, and sometimes anticipates and guesses the events of real life». Imaginary life because it therefore also concerns the expectation of a future that we can build through literature, cinema, art, written words and the voices to which we dedicate our special attention. «This Salon it is then the homage to imaginary life, in all its forms – says Benini – to his creative, melancholic, confident and always new way of creating other worlds and making them meet, even hoping that some of them can become real».
The first previews
One of the most salient innovations of the XXXVI edition is the creation of seven sections, each dedicated to a relevant and central theme for the Show. The care of the sections is entrusted to writers, intellectuals and artists, who for each topic have created meeting-events that they will conduct during the days of the Salon.

Seven sections: from art to cinema
L’Art is the first and to accompany the community of readers of the Salon on this journey dedicated to art writings and works will be Melania Mazzucco. The second is the Cinema a journey to meet those who make cinema, think about it, produce it and write it: this is the section curated by Francesco Piccolo, one of the most important writers and screenwriters in Italy, who will accompany the Salone’s audience to discover what is behind the screens, what happens, how to choose and what are the steps of everything that at the end of this process is revealed to the spectators, and it excites them. Among the most anticipated guests, the director Paolo Sorrentino.
Turin Book Fair 2024: from publishing to novels
L’Publishing it is the third section: it will be curator Teresa Crimisi, which will invite emblematic publishers to the Book Fair and will ask each of them to tell their vision of publishing, the history of their publishing house and how the daily life of a publisher unfolds. L’Information is the fourth: curator Francesco Costa which will talk about the changes that have occurred and their impact on society. Lightness it is the fifth: lightness as a balm to soften the present, this is the nuance of literature that it will highlight Luciana Littizzettocurator of the section. Section again Romance to explore human emotions in depth: curator Erin Doom. And finally the section Novel born from an idea of Alessandro Pipernocurator, to tell the peculiar way of reading of male and female writers.
The first international names
This year the Show welcomes the German as host language and among the various events dedicated to the in-depth study of literary and cultural production in the German language, there will be Nicolas MahlerAustrian cartoonist and illustrator and artistic director of the Vienna School of Poetry.
Then “one of the clearest voices of contemporary Latin American literature” will arrive, namely the Mexican author Guadalupe Nettel. Bestselling author, arrives at the Book Fair David Nichollswriter, screenwriter and television writer, nominated for the Emmy Awards for the screenplay of Patrick Melrose.
