Maria Passucci: A Psychocentric World

That patients are the center of the world of Psychologists, there is no doubt. That is necessary and even (almost) mandatory. But what happens when thousands of professionals tirelessly study countless postgraduate courses, work many hours per day and after years of professional practice the question still fails to arise about what their place is in this world?

Many colleagues attend my consultation because a careful space is provided in which the possibility of wondering about their present and future is respectfully housed. A space in which it is possible to place yourself as the center of your own world.

I have created a Psychocentric world, a world in which, after having necessarily taken care of ethically and responsibly assisting patients and clients, certain questions that concern the subjectivity and professional practice of Psychologists can be asked.

The creative process:

In the interviews with Psychologists there are two things that appear insistently and they are: the complexity of authorizing oneself to leave the classic and established places of necessarily having to occupy a position as a clinical Psychologist and the difficulty of planning a future professional development that would Allow yourself, guilt-free, to choose how you want to live your life and career.

The guilt of not following the commands, the uncertainty about the future, the fear of frustration, and the fear and shame of “what will they say” are some of the affects that appear normally.

Generations after generations of graduated psychologists who have been busy thinking (only) about patients, that if we were a kind of socio-family clan I could dare to say, that this way of working has penetrated us so deeply that it is already in our DNA. Unfortunately for many, this made them forget about themselves and they spent years offering excellent assistance without even being able to live and enjoy their profession.

Ok, I want you to think that one thing does not eliminate the other.

A new world

The proposal is to build a work style in which they want to live by listening to the uniqueness of the professional. Many professionals adjust to already created professional practice styles despite not being comfortable with them. The professional is accompanied in the creation of new ways of working where he is the center of the project, inviting him to combine existing possibilities and adapting them both to his desire and to the lifestyle he wants to have in the future.
