France’s top club Paris St. Germain is not allowed to buy the Prinzenpark Stadium. PSG therefore wants to move out and build its own arena.

The French football series champion Paris St. Germain has announced its departure from the Prinzenpark after 50 years. “Now it’s over, we want to move out”said PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi on Thursday. Two days earlier, the city of Paris had rejected a sale of the stadium to the capital club.

“We know what we want. We wasted years buying the park”said the Qatari businessman on the sidelines of the UEFA Congress in Paris. PSG considers the acquisition of the stadium essential to carry out its expansion plans to 60,000 seats.

The 1984 European Championship final stadium currently offers space for around 48,000 fans. PSG has been playing in Prinzenpark since 1974. The club is currently exploring the possibility of building a new stadium in the Paris region.
