Victor Vlam, the media critic known for RTL Boulevard, among others, wonders why people ‘en masse hate’ Leonie ter Braak. “I think I know…”
Leonie ter Braak has had to suffer a lot lately. She started her career in journalism, but has now drifted into all kinds of crazy celebrity panel quizzes. The men of Today Inside regularly make fun of her, according to Jan Uriot she has emerged as an RTL clown and Angela de Jong called her ‘stupidly annoying’ last week.
‘Not going well’
Why is everyone so picky about Leonie? Media critic Victor Vlam points this out in his podcast The Communicados. “I think you can officially say that Leonie ter Braak’s career is not going very well. Since she switched to RTL4, she appears in all kinds of programs, usually as a panel member.”
He continues: “And there is a lot of criticism from all corners. We’ve talked about her in the past on the podcast. I share many of those criticisms. But I also tried to find an explanation for why there is this resistance to her, because I actually feel it a little bit myself.”
Massively disliked
Leonie can currently be seen in the celebrity shows Does he do it or doesn’t he do it and Dear Viewers. “Why is there so much resistance against Leonie ter Braak? Why do people apparently hate her en masse? The explanation I have for it is that she looks dissatisfied. And I’ve seen that with her a number of times.”
Victor continues: “Or at least I think I observe that in her: dissatisfaction with where she has ended up in her career. She believes she is entitled to more. That she deserves bigger programs. I think I see that idea in her.”
Evaluate career
Ruben Nicolai recently made a joke in Beste Viewers about Leonie’s TV career and she took it very seriously. “It indicates a bit that I don’t think she is satisfied with what she got from RTL.”
What is the reason why, according to Victor, the emotion comes across so badly to the audience? “That’s because compared to that of normal, ordinary people, her job is of course a fantastic job, because she sits on all kinds of panels playing a few games where some funny clips are shown here and there.”
Gratitude
So Leonie shouldn’t grumble and complain so much, Victor thinks. “Yes, if you compare her job with, I know, being a project manager at an insurer where you sit in the office all day, then that is of course a much better job. That dissatisfaction that she seems to display there does not come across well to other people.”
What should the presenter do? “She needs to show more gratitude.”
