‘Özcan Akyol, this is killing your credibility’

Victor Vlam, media critic and VI expert, believes that Özcan Akyol’s credibility is under pressure. “Publicly he puts on big pants, but behind the scenes…”

Özcan Akyol has caused quite a stir with his derogatory comments about boas at the table at Today Inside. These officials already face a lack of respect in society and Özcan has only made that worse. Yet the opinion maker does not regret boa bashing, he said last week in BNR’s The Friday Move.

To regret or not to regret?

Strange, says journalist Bart Nijman. “Do you remember how Ozcan Akyol insulted boas last month on Today Inside? Everyone angry, with the boa association in the lead. ‘If you can’t do anything, you become a boa.’ The other men from Today Inside later had a boa at the table, and took back their words a bit. Not Eus, he had no regrets last week.”

He continues X: “HOWEVER. The opportunistic king of Koekstad has toned down his words in one place: internally at the Ministry of Finance. Photo from their intranet, from January 29.”

Eusportunism

Bart shares a screenshot of the following intranet headline: ‘Özcan Akyol: ‘I didn’t mean to offend’. “The reason: Secretary General of Minister of Finance Bas van den Dungen was angry, on behalf of the ministry’s boas, ‘especially because [Eus] writes a column in the corporate magazine’.”

This is ‘Eusportunism’, Bart concludes. “A lucrative revenue model.”

‘This is killing’

Victor Vlam, media critic and VI expert, reacts with surprise. “Eus refused to tone down his words about boas in the media, but he does so on the intranet of the Ministry of Finance. Why there? Eus writes a column in their internal magazine (undoubtedly for a nice fee). This is killing his credibility,” he writes X.

Very debatable, Victor thinks. “Publicly he puts on big pants. But behind the scenes he tells his client that he doesn’t mean anything. I am very curious about the reaction of the men from Today Inside. Their program has received a lot of criticism because of Eus’ statements.”
