What on earth happened to Merel Westrik? The presenter is still at home unemployed after her failed adventure at Net5. “She will no longer get a job in Hilversum.”
Merel’s career collapsed completely when she exchanged her great job at RTL News for a lucrative Talpa adventure. She was adopted by Linda de Mol herself was tempted to become the face of women’s channel Net5, but her talk show Ladies Night flopped mercilessly and Merel has been glued to the sidelines ever since.
Where is Merel?
Tina Nijkamp, ratings authority and former channel boss of SBS 6, asks in her podcast Tina’s TV Update wondering where Merel has gone. “Yes, that is a very good question. After her debacle at Net5 – Ladies Talk was announced with a lot of fuss, Linda de Mol was even on the panel, but it didn’t work out at all – we heard little from her.”
She made two more documentaries, Tina recalls. “But her contract has expired for some time and she is now just at home. I think she still does some chairpersonships, but she will no longer be able to work in Hilversum. Remarkably enough: her sister Kirsten does, because she has been presenting 112 Today on RTL 5 for quite a long time.”
Not working
Apparently there is no longer any interest in Merel, according to Tina. “Merel apparently doesn’t get a job. I would have found her suitable for KRO-NCRV, because that broadcaster has very few presenters at the moment. Almost nobody. Fortunately, they have now hired Herman van der Zandt and for the rest it is, yes, very little, right?”
She concludes: “Yes, Yvon Jaspers, but yes, she has only done those farmer programs for her entire career, so yes, you cannot use her for many things. I expected Merel there, but who knows, this is a free tip if they haven’t approached Merel yet. I think that would fit together very nicely.”
