Summer is coming: This is how you can design your garden cheaply

A beautiful garden can be a real feast for the eyes. Many hobby gardeners therefore want to make their own green spaces as attractive as possible. There are hardly any limits to creativity. So that the realization of the projects does not put too much strain on the wallet, a lot of personal effort is required. However, the extra effort is worth it. In this way, the garden gets a very individual look for little money.

Sow and plant yourself

A well-kept green lawn and a variety of colorful flowers are the basic characteristics that make a magnificent garden special. For a beautiful English lawn, however, it is not necessary to buy expensive rolled turf. Although self-sowing takes more time and requires more care, it also saves a lot of money. The situation is similar when planting in the flower bed. Discounters offer seed mixes at very low prices that can lead to impressive combinations.

You can also ask friends and family for help. If there are already fully grown perennials in their gardens, they can simply be divided and transplanted into your own garden. This means that the flowers do not have to be bought separately. If you leave some space in your own bed, the plants you have grown yourself can be divided again, which, with a little patience, will fill the garden all by itself. Hedges can also be grown by hand with seedlings and a little work.

Make your own garden furniture

Vintage looks have been popular for quite some time. So why should you buy expensive “old” furniture if you can also refurbish it yourself? There is no longer any room in your own home for many disused pieces of furniture. They simply stand in some corner as dust collectors. As long as they aren’t really broken, their style can again fit very well into today’s world. In order to arm the specimens well for the weather in the garden, thorough processing is necessary beforehand. The wood needs to be sanded, cleaned and primed. A new attractive coat of paint can then be applied.

New furniture can also be assembled from objects such as pallets or wine crates. With this upcycling, old things get a whole new use. Although this form of design requires a certain amount of ingenuity and craftsmanship, it saves money and gives the furniture you create yourself an ideal value. For smaller decorations, upcycling can be used in a similarly innovative way.

create your own paths

A paved path belongs somewhere in a real garden. Creating a path is quite easy to do yourself. But you can safely do without expensive paving stones. A backfill with gravel is the cheaper option. In the first step, however, the soil along the path must be removed about ten centimeters deep. The exposed area should be properly compacted with a vibrating plate. A synthetic fleece should then be laid out on the subsoil to prevent future weed infestation. Last but not least, the gravel must be evenly distributed along the path. In addition, it also makes sense to border the path with stones.
