According to the artist, the project arose from a series of coincidences that led her to create the first work in the series, which gave the project its name. The legend of the red thread of destiny is an ancient Asian legend that states that two people can be predestined to be together, regardless of time and circumstances. From each little finger of these people comes an invisible red thread that unites them.
What inspired you to create this project and how did you choose the title “The Red Thread”?
The achievement of this project was the consequence of many coincidences that converged, giving life to the first work of the series that was called Hilo Rojo. Based on certain colors and compositional elements that I wanted the work to have, the search for meaning along with materiality began.
The legend of the Red Thread of Fate is about an ancient Asian legend that claims that two people can be predestined to be together, regardless of time and circumstances. From each little finger of these people comes an invisible red thread that unites them. From my reading it implied a more spiritual vision that goes beyond romantic love. In my series, the red thread connects different people who enter and leave life but who leave a mark or a lesson and in this way connect us with the whole that encompasses history itself.
What techniques and materials did you use to create the works in this project and what meaning do they have for you?
Basically I continued working with inks, which is what I like the most to give body to my curved lines. But in this case I also explored a little with the collage technique. It was something that I wanted to introduce to my work for quite some time and it seems to me that it adds and gives a special character to the entire series, although not all of the works in it have this distinctive element.
What message or feeling do you want to convey to the public with this project and how do you hope they react to it?
The whole work is a theme that runs through us all throughout life. The series is around 10 works that talk about different moments that a relationship can go through. Encounter, wound, commitment, etc. These are some of the titles of the works that make it up. It is a series that talks about human nature.
What challenges or difficulties did you face during the creative process of this project and how did you overcome them?
During the creative process of this project I faced the challenge of finding harmony between the abstract conceptualization of my works and the need to transmit this message. But thanks to the dedication I put into the research phase and certain feedback I received from colleagues and the audience in my networks, I was able to overcome that obstacle in their final interpretation. I think the creative process was very enriched. in this way and also contributed to the achievement of a work with a greater emotional connection in each piece.
The artist also commented that the creative process of this project allowed her to develop her artistic vision and release the idea of literality, letting the lines speak for themselves and allowing the viewer to recover their free interpretation.
“This occurs simultaneously with a certain spiritual opening that is occurring in the search for an increasingly organic work in harmony with nature,” said Kaplan.
