Arjen Lubach made fun of Floortje Dessing’s brother yesterday in the opening of his program De Avondshow. “He’s trying to shout down an asylum seekers’ center!”
It is torment for Floortje Dessing, as the face of the progressive BNNVARA, to be constantly confronted with her brother Johan Dessing, who is the chairman of the Forum for Democracy group in the Senate. The two have been at odds with each other for years and that is mainly because of his political beliefs.
Johan is AGAINST
Johan is currently very concerned about the dispersal law, which passed the Senate yesterday. “We start with good news for people who like to spread out. 43 senators voted in favor, 26 against and one person very much against,” Arjen Lubach noted last night in his ratings hit The Evening Show.
Then the fragment of Johan voting starts. He makes it very clear that he is against the dispersal law, namely by shouting. “IN RETURN FOR!”
Screaming around
Arjen mocks Johan for his fierce reaction. After the fragment he reacts as if he has been completely blown away. “Maybe he was trying to shout down an asylum seeker center or something. Don’t know!”
Not even Arjen’s comment, but especially the broadcasting of Johan’s rather outspoken voice makes him quite ridiculous of course. It will be a horror for Floortje, because she prefers to be confronted with her brother as little as possible.
Family feud
Floortje and Johan haven’t seen each other for years. She has particular difficulty with the FVD positions on issues such as Russia and immigration. “Although my brother has a more nuanced view about this, he is still affiliated with the party that legitimizes this and I personally have a lot of difficulty with that,” she said recently.
It stands between the two. “Those are things that keep tripping us up and that causes us to distance ourselves, but that doesn’t mean I’ve completely turned away from him.”
