This Wednesday evening, in the catch-up game against Union Berlin (8:30 p.m.), FC Bayern has the chance to reduce the gap to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen to four points – and to better get the unrest in their own ranks under control. The 0-1 loss in the home game against Werder Bremen on Sunday had noticeably spoiled the mood for the record champions and led coach Thomas Tuchel to express perplexity about his team’s performance. The words of the trainer, who has held the position on Säbener Strasse since March 24, 2023, are said to have really shocked some of those responsible at FCB. This is reported by “Sport Bild”.
“I don’t feel like saying that we trained well anymore. Nobody believes you anymore,” the 50-year-old explained to “DAZN” after the disappointment against SVW. Remarks that apparently caused astonishment in the executive suite of the second-placed team. Unlike his predecessor Julian Nagelsmann, he did not present his findings internally, but publicly. “Tuchel now has to fight for his job!” wrote the magazine.
From Hitzfeld to Tuchel: The 16 Bayern coaches since 2000
The coach, who wants to have greater media appreciation for his work in the English Premier League, is blamed for the lack of handwriting. Weak professionals like left-back Alphonso Davies (23) would represent the lack of further development of the Tuchel team. There is no real unity between the team and their trainer – because Tuchel is said to have too many critics in his own ranks. Many professionals would be unsettled by the fact that he gives them a lot of tactical instructions. Although Tuchel relied on some team-building measures in the training camp in Portugal and tried a lot, he and his players would continue to be strangers to each other.
Tuchel has a contract in Munich until 2025, and he and Bayern are facing their first titleless season at national level since 2011/12. Bayer 04 is currently the measure of all things in the Bundesliga, and in the DFB Cup FCB was sensationally knocked out of the competition by 1. FC Saarbrücken. In the Champions League, Bayern will face Lazio Rome in the round of 16. The coach in focus, who missed “competitive toughness” and “competitive mentality” against Werder, was self-critical on Tuesday: “I am the first to question myself when so little of what I am responsible for as a coach “We want to stand on the pitch.” We are “very clearly aware” of the initial situation.
FC Bayern: Coach Tuchel behind Nagelsmann & Co. in points average
In terms of average points, Tuchel is clearly lagging behind his predecessor – while Nagelsmann collected 2.31 points per game, Tuchel only got 2.11. His predecessor Hansi Flick even achieved 2.53. Since Louis van Gaal (2.03 from July 2009 to April 2011), no Bayern coach has had a weaker points average than Tuchel. If the negative trend worsens, the upheaval at management level – a new sports director, Max Eberl, is due to start work in April at the latest – could also include the coaching position.
What fits into the crooked picture of FC Bayern: According to “Sport Bild”, Davies and midfielders Leon Goretzka (28) and Joshua Kimmich (28) are thinking about saying goodbye next summer. It is said that Goretzka is considering a transfer to the Premier League. While Kimmich is said to be very popular with Barcelona coach Xavi and Davies has been traded at Real Madrid for a long time.
