Eat, don’t pay: police encounter food pirates in Hoogeveen: ‘You see him looking around’

The police know who the food pirates are who ate without paying in Ribhouse Texas restaurants in Voorst and Boekelo (Overijssel) last week. According to a police spokesperson, it concerns a couple from Ireland with four minor children. The police found them in Hoogeveen.

The restaurant in Voorst was left with a bill of 233 euros last Thursday evening, after the family in question, according to De Stentor struck in a shrewd manner so they could leave without paying. A day later it happened again, this time at the restaurant of the same sparerib chain in Boekelo.

The same attack took place in both Voorst and Boekelo. “The children are first sent outside with their mothers. Then he supposedly orders something, dessert. The moment you want to put the dessert in the cash register, he leaves behind. You see him looking back on the camera images,” said the restaurant owner. Han Meiberg in Voorst against the newspaper.

Partly because of the brutal way in which paying the bill was circumvented, the restaurant owner shared camera images of the man’s working method on social media on Saturday. Although this is not allowed according to the police, it did provide useful tips. For example, the family is recognized by a regular guest of the restaurant in the parking lot of a supermarket in Goor.

The police confirm that. “Colleagues received a report last weekend that the family they were looking for would be in the parking lot of the supermarket in Goor. The family was not found in Goor, but was later stopped near Hoogeveen.”

However, because the restaurant owners had not yet filed an official report when the police found the family in Hoogeveen. “As a result, no arrest could be made,” said the police spokesperson. “We did have their details from that moment on. A report has now been filed and we are handling the case.”

The police cannot say whether the family has been involved in similar incidents.
