After defeat against Werder

After the loss against Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel sees no automatic mechanism for a sudden increase in performance. “There’s no way it’ll just be turned over,” Tuchel replied before the catch-up game in the Bundesliga against Union Berlin on Wednesday (8:30 p.m.), asking whether the switch could easily be turned over. The Munich coach emphasized on Tuesday with a look at the table: “We are very clearly aware of the starting position.” With the catch-up game still in hand, FC Bayern have collected 41 points and are seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. A year ago, at the same point in the season, Julian Nagelsmann had 37 points.
In terms of average points, Tuchel is clearly lagging behind his predecessor – while Nagelsmann collected 2.31 points per game, Tuchel only got 2.11 per encounter. His predecessor Hansi Flick even achieved 2.53 PPS. Since Louis van Gaal (2.03 PPS from July 2009 to April 2011), no Bayern coach has had a weaker points average than Tuchel. He missed “competitive toughness” and “competitive mentality” against Bremen (0-1) on Sunday and called for greed and enthusiasm. Tuchel also criticized himself. “I am the first to question myself when so little of what I want to stand for as a coach is on the pitch,” the coach admitted.
Tuchel did not rule out personnel changes, but that was always the crucial question. “Is now the moment when they can prove again that they can do better or is this the moment when a few changes will happen?” he explained and did not want to reveal any further details about the line-up.

FC Bayern: Technical Director Neppe before saying goodbye after 10 years
FC Bayern Munich is currently pushing ahead with the restructuring of its sporting management team. According to “Bild” and “Sky”, technical director Marco Neppe will be leaving the club after ten years. However, since Christoph Freund took office as sports director in September 2023, the 37-year-old has only played a minor role in the record champions’ squad planning and sporting orientation.
It is also expected that Max Eberl will soon be hired in Munich as the successor to Hasan Salihamidzic for the position of sports director, which has been vacant for months. The 50-year-old Eberl was released from his position as sports director at RB Leipzig last September. For him, the Munich team would have to pay a transfer fee in the millions to the Saxon Bundesliga club. Eberl and Freund should determine the sporting direction of the record champions in the future.
Neppe was guided to FC Bayern in 2014 by then technical director Michael Reschke. He started as a scout and then rose to become technical director himself. He was later a close colleague of Salihamidzic, who had to leave the club at the end of last season along with CEO Oliver Kahn. Before this season, Neppe was still part of FC Bayern’s transfer committee and, together with board boss Jan-Christian Dreesen, also handled the signing of striker Harry Kane. However, the club was always defensive about Neppe’s future.
