AI powers Google: Multiple, visual and immersive search with one click

Google launches “Circle and Search”

How many times while watching a video on YouTube, a story on Instagram or a TikTok have we noticed an object or detail we would have liked to know more about. From the glasses worn by our favorite star to the sauce on those mouth-watering Thai rolls. Most of the time, however, we had to give up due to lack of information. Here you are, “Circle and Search” wants to make up for this lack. From 31 January 2024some users will simply be able to pause the videopress and hold the home button, then circle with their finger the thing they see that they would like to know more about, and collect the results. Without having to take a screenshot, without leaving the app they were using, without interrupting the flow of use.

“Circle and Search” allows you to highlight, simply with a finger, one or more parts of a video or photo, and quickly find similar options that can be purchased from online retailers, without changing apps. This implementation (Circle to Search in the original language) will be llaunched on January 31st on select Android smartphones: Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and the new Galaxy S24 seriesin all languages and locations where these are available.

Advanced search, yes, but only in the USA

For users residing in the USA, the innovation doesn’t stop there. This new search system, exploiting the potential of Artificial Intelligence, does not limit itself to finding similar objects for sale online, but he also knows how to answer questions regarding what has been “circled” or searched for. For example, if what I highlighted is a dish or a condiment, I will be able to find more information about it by obtaining not only visual but also textual results. This advanced search is also able to answer collateral questions such as: “how is this dish cooked?”, or explain more complex concepts such as “Why is it so popular in Korea?”.

In front of an object we have never seen, for example, just take a photo and then ask “How to use? How does it work?“. This new one Google’s enhanced multisearch it searches for textual information, images, but also videos that contain the answer we are looking for, leading us to the exact amount of time we need.

A nice improvement, too bad that for now only Americans will be able to use it. AI-powered searches in multisearch results will launch this week in English in the United States for everyone, without the need to register with Search Labs. To get started, just click the camera icon Lens in the Google app for Android or iOS. Those in the US will also be able to access AI-powered overviews in multisearch results within Circle to Search, from January 31st. As long as you have one of the three devices mentioned above.
