Vignir Jonasson is dead.
Swedish national team rider Vignir Jonasson has died at the age of 52. They write about it Hallandsposten magazine and borrowed it Expressen.
Jonasson died from injuries sustained in a work accident. He got stuck under a tractor on a farm in Laholm.
The accident happened on Sunday evening. The police were called from the farm at 19:20. Jonasson was rushed to the hospital, but he could not be saved.
The top rider won the Swedish championship last fall on the back of an Icelandic horse. In his career that lasted more than 30 years, he also won championships in the World Championships and the Icelandic and Nordic championships.
Jonasson was a big name in riding circles. In addition to his racing career, he also trained horses, and worked in the horse industry since 1987.
In 2001, Jonasson received a major honor when he was named Iceland’s Rider of the Year.
