“The Exorcist”: Director David Gordon Green leaves for sequel

Due to David Gordon Green’s exit, the film’s release has been postponed indefinitely.

After “The Exorcist: Believer” was released on October 5, 2023, the next offshoot “The Exorcist: Deceiver” of the cult classic should now follow. The “The Exorcist” trilogy follows directly on from the 1973 original. Horror fans could have seen the second film in theaters in April 2025, but it has now been announced that director David Gordon Green has left the project. It is questionable whether 2025 can still be met as the start date.

The reason for Gordon Green’s exit is apparently a busy schedule, as “Variety” reports. The US director is currently working on “Nutcrackers” starring Ben Stiller and the fourth season of the HBO series “The Righteous Gemstones”.

The film’s release has been postponed indefinitely

Universal is said to have replaced the “Exorcist” follow-up film, which was originally scheduled for April 18, 2025, with a Michael Jackson biopic by Antoine Fuqua. The film studio and production company Blumhouse is currently looking for a replacement director; It is not clear when work on the film will continue.
