Puy du Fou in France is very beautiful. But it was not yet a done deal that the theme park could come here in Drenthe.
With these words, Willemien Meeuwissen, deputy for the VVD, responds to the news that Puy du Fou has decided not to build a theme park the size of 85 football fields near Meppel, along the A7.
The deputy received a phone call from Meppel on Wednesday afternoon, when she had just attended a debate in the Drenthe Parliament. As soon as the opportunity arose, she informed the members of Parliament about the theme park’s cancellation.
Been to France myself
“The province originally had the initiative to interest Puy du Fou for a park near Meppel, but later the municipality took over the management of the project,” she explains.
“I have been to France myself to see what Puy du Fou is all about,” Meeuwissen continues. “I really liked it. But that doesn’t mean it was all done and done.” The plan still had to be further developed and then a political decision would be made whether Drenthe indeed wanted to allow such a large park.
Meeuwissen has the impression that the size of the investment made Puy du Fou decide to withdraw the plan. But she has no certainty about that. She wants to inform the Drenthe Parliament in more detail about this in the coming weeks.
