In view of the Ukraine war, the Swedish fashion giant H&M is suspending its sales operations in Russia until further notice.
The H&M group is deeply concerned about the tragic developments in Ukraine and stands by all people who are suffering, the group announced on Wednesday evening in Stockholm. It was therefore decided to temporarily pause all sales in Russia. The branches in Ukraine have already been closed with a view to the safety of customers and employees. In addition to the Hennes & Mauritz fashion chain, the H&M Group also includes other brands such as COS, Weekday and Arket.
The H&M group joins those around the world who are calling for peace, the company said. Clothing and other things are therefore donated by the group. Donations were also made to the aid organization Save the Children and the UN refugee agency UNHCR.
The group had recently kept all shops open in Russia and, according to information from the newspaper “Aftonbladet”, even planned to open new branches in Moscow next weekend. When asked by the newspaper on Wednesday, H&M replied that it was no longer true that it wanted to open stores in the Russian capital. (dpa)
