US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has spoken with former Treasury Secretary Sigrid Kaag about their “shared commitment to alleviating suffering in Gaza.” This is what Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the American Department of State, writes on X. Both have emphasized the importance of cooperation for humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

Kaag has been the United Nations senior humanitarian and reconstruction coordinator for Gaza since Monday. This week she is in New York and Washington, where she will speak with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres about the situation in Gaza. Blinken is currently traveling through the Middle East. According to Florencia Soto Nino, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary General, Kaag will initially fulfill her duties from the Jordanian capital Aman.
