Former Bundesliga star Max Kruse has revealed what his plans are after the recently announced end of his career. Kruse also looked back on his time at Werder Bremen and at the same time gave hints about his departure.
Last weekend Max Kruse was once again seen in the Werder Bremen jersey. At the indoor tournament in Oldenburg, the 35-year-old was on the artificial turf for his former club’s traditional team. Kruse wore the green-white jersey at the start of his career between 2006 and 2009 and later again between 2016 and 2019.
“They were always very nice and very cool times. I know that I had a great time in Bremen and things went great in terms of sport,” the offensive man looked back on the two phases on the Weser in an interview with the “Deichstube” portal.
Werder Bremen’s managers would actually have liked to keep the top performer at the time beyond the summer of 2019, but a contract extension did not come about and Kruse joined Fenerbahce in Turkey. However, things didn’t go well there, so the attacker moved back to the Bundesliga to Union Berlin just a year later. So was leaving Werder and moving to Istanbul a mistake?
That’s why Max Kruse’s second spell at Werder Bremen ended
“I experienced worse moments than the second farewell from Bremen,” Kruse said, adding ambiguously: “Not everyone has the background knowledge that I have about why things came to an end. That’s probably why one or the other will say , the second ending could have been nicer.”
Ultimately, he simply needed “a change of air.” “I don’t know whether I would have continued to perform like this in Bremen in the following years,” said Kruse, who was a kind of life insurance for the Hanseatic team with 35 goals and 28 assists in 93 games across all competitions in the second Werder phase.
After his professional career, which he officially ended in mid-December, Kruse now wants to try out numerous activities. “Driving is there, poker is there, football will be there too, but only a small part because that’s what I’ve had for the last 15 years,” he revealed.
In addition to the money he earned through his football career, Kruse wants to earn additional income through reality TV, for example through his YouTube account.
“We both don’t have that much to do,” he said of himself and his wife and added: “The money has to come in again.” Kruse added humorously: “If you see me in the jungle camp, then I’m really broke. But in everything else, for example in Big Brother, I’ll definitely be there.”
