In the Slufter, a dune area on Texel, a number of sheep were chased by a dog this afternoon. Five sheep were injured, one did not survive. The shepherd could see on a tracker that the animals had been chased back and forth for at least ten minutes, writes the Texelse Courant.
In most dune areas on Texel it is mandatory to keep dogs on a leash, this also applies to the Slufter area. Every year sheep are killed or injured because dogs chase them. For dogs it is mainly a game, but for sheep it can be fatal.
