The French sporting goods retailer Decathlon has completed the takeover of the outdoor outfitter Bergfreunde GmbH, which was agreed at the end of November.
“The closing of the transaction was finalized on January 2, 2024, after all regulatory approvals and the fulfillment of other customary closing conditions,” Bergfreunde announced on Wednesday.
Decathlon acquired the Kirchentellinsfurt-based e-commerce specialist from the US retail group Backcountry. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
After the takeover has now been completed, Bergfreunde will operate organizationally and operationally “independently and detached from Decathlon’s core business,” emphasized the online retailer. The proven management staff should keep their positions: “Matthias Gebhard and Ronny Höhn will remain in the management of the company, and there will be no changes in the existing management team,” it says in a statement.
