The surprising announcement of the Eurovision organizers has caused consternation on social media. The official Eurovision Instagram account recently announced that the song contest would soon see a touch of Central America.
– New year, new news! We are excited to announce that the Caribbean will be entering Eurovision in 2024. Stay tuned, we can’t wait to tell you more, the text section of the post reads.

However, not all Vius fans are equally enthusiastic about the announcement. Many criticized the mere idea that the Caribbean would be allowed to participate in the singing competition.
– The Caribbean is not even a country. I’m confused. Will its areas be represented together or individually?
– What next? In the future, will Eurovision be watched on Netflix, Amazon or Disney+ against registration?
– This is so wrong. Then don’t call it Eurovision anymore.
However, some fans suspect that the Caribbean has a role in Eurovision other than competing itself.
– I think Caribbean cruises are the new sponsors.
– The Royal Caribbean cruise company just started following the Eurovision Song Contest. So it will definitely work as a new sponsor.

However, some would not mind even if the Caribbean participated in the competition, as long as Israel was denied entry. With the conflict in the Middle East, activists as well as some countries have demanded that Israel should be denied the opportunity to participate in the competition. A bigger social media uproar arose when the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) decided to allow Israel to participate in the contest despite the demands.
The EBU justified its decision by saying that Eurovision is a competition of public broadcasting companies, not governments.
– Eurovision is still a non-political event that unites the entire audience around the world with the help of music, the EBU emphasized to Sky News.
The Eurovision Song Contest will be held this year in Malmö, Sweden, on May 7, 9 and 11.
