The German rapper Sven Pingel, alias Hollywood Hank, is dead. He is said to have died three weeks ago in Spain at the age of 38, according to information from his former label Rapz Records. However, nothing was said about the cause of death.
“His last destination was Spain”
Rapz Records’ Instagram post says that he spontaneously flew to Spain in the winter of 2023, a month ago, to spend the Christmas season alone. They received their information from Pingel’s family – but in their statement they ask that those close to them not be disturbed in their grief by asking questions. The social media post also says that the 38-year-old had struggled with mental problems. There was a “war” going on in his head that they wished “had ended.”
Rapz Records further explains: “Sven loved to travel, he didn’t need any money because the voices in his head guided him. He was brought back to Berlin several times, but then always found his way abroad. His final destination was Spain. Where he unfortunately died during the lonely Christmas season.” Finally, they honor his “unique, exceptional talent”.
Underground German rap from the 2000s
Hollywood Hank became known in the mid-2000s when he moved around rappers like Kollegah, the 257ers and JAW. However, the musician struggled with mental health problems and substance abuse for years and further withdrew from the music business.
At the same time as the label’s statement, other artists also spoke out about the rapper’s death, expressed their condolences and said goodbye to Hollywood Hank. For example, Favorite posted a video on TikTok.
